Aging In Place in Canada: meaning and action

Virtual Reality Exergames

On Tuesday, March 15, 2022 Dr. Jennifer Jakobi presented the results of the Aging In Place cluster’s recent survey and focus groups on the meaning and action needed to age in place in Canada for Embrace Aging Month. This study was conducted in partnership with the National Association of Federal Retirees.

One of the major themes that came out of this study was “aging with choice”. Staying at home or within the same community was very important to participants but most recognized that wants and needs change across the lifespan and that having acceptable choices available is key – including affordable and accessible services as needed. Survey results indicate that Canadians are highly concerned about the financial aspects of aging in place as well as where to find information about accessing assistance and services.

We are delighted to share the full report of our findings here.
