This project led by Dr. Jennifer Jakobi and post-doctoral fellow Dr. Changki Kim’s aims to find a way to improve foot sensation of older adults with or without diabetic neuropathy using imperceptible vibration.

Currently, we are inviting individuals aged 50+ living in the Central Okanagan to participate in this in-person study titled “Effects of Imperceptible Vibration: Sensorimotor function in persons with Diabetes”. We are recruiting individuals with and without diabetic neuropathy. Participation consists of various clinical foot sensation tests (vibration sensation test, monofilament, two-point discrimination sensation tests), and leg motor performance tests (gait speed test, balance test, ankle motor performance tests). Participation involves two in-person sessions (2.5-3.5 hours for each visit) in Healthy Exercise and Aging Laboratory on the UBC Okanagan campus. We are offering a $30 Save-On gift card to either Save-On-Foods or Walmart (your preference) upon completion of study. We practice UBC COVID-19 safety protocol guidelines. This research is funded by AGE-WELL and the Aging In Place research cluster. Please contact aging.inplace@ubc.ca if you are interested and for more information.
